2009 Event Highlights & Photos

WLHCA  ‘s Annual Golf Day July 11th  WLHCA another Day on the links thanks again to Ken Smelser. In spite of the rain earlier and at the beginning of the event, Ken and all the 30 golfers showed that they were made of strong fiber and completed the nine holes of golf and were still smiling when they finished.  WLHCA will continue to host our Golf Day thanks to Steve Ringham who stepped up to plate and volunteered to be the next coordinator following the announcement that Ken would no longer be able to continue to run it.   As you know, if there is no one to organize an event, it doesn’t happen. Ken has come through for us for many years finding great prizes and organizing our event  with Helen at Marvel Rapids. . Unfortunately due to changes at work he won’t be able to do this any more.  He sent this account of the WLHCA’s golf day. Take a Kid Fishing Day Saturday July 11th, 2009  A big thank you goes to Bronwyn Sage for organizing a great fishing derby for the kids once again and to Bev Meyer for helping to purchase the prizes. Thank you also to sponsors for this event, WLHCA, Bev and Bill Meyers at Island View , and Karen and Chris Chalinor at Red Eagle.  Over 30 children came to Island View to bring their “catch of the day” to be weighed and recorded by Bronwyn Sage and her friend Kathy Vance. Each young person was so proud of their catch. Children’s Fun Day Saturday July 18, 2009  Considering the weather that Coe Hill has enjoyed this summer,  we were very fortunate to have a little bit of sunshine and no rain for the Children’s Fun Day on July 18th.  A big thank you goes to Kelly Earle and Kim Findley for organizing and running a wonderful outing for the children on the lake. The youngest of all was Kelly’s little boy who was only a month old.  Also greatly appreciated were Jewel Stanley, Cathie Trotter,  Kelly’s step mother, Debbie,  Angela Metauro, and Joan Whitney who generously gave of their time to lead each activity.  The participants ran and played hard and were very hungry and ready to enjoy hot dogs and a drink.  We were indeed fortunate this year to have Herb Whittle BBQ the hot dogs and have Beryl Lee help with serving and cleanup. We even roped my husband, Ed Stewart, into helping to load the BBQ into Herb’s truck to bring it over to Island View. Again we thank Bev and Bill Meyers for the use of their beach and assisting us whenever we needed something.  It was wonderful to have a visit from Jim Dehaseth who shared his expertise and visited with many long time friends.  Over 30 children showed up and everyone seemed to have a great time. They threw bean bags into hoops, had their faces painted, had a water balloon toss, took turns in a relay race after dressing up and then undressed to pass on the clothes to the next person,  filled up a pail with a leaky pop bottle and ate jelly  and whipped cream off paper plates with their hands held behind their back.  There were lots of laughs and giggles. WLHCA’s Annual Horseshoe Tournament August 2, 2009 On August 2nd  WLHCA held their Annual Horseshoe Tournament hosted by the Pickering Family at Tedd and Angi Pickering’s cottage on Fergusen Bay Road. Andrew Hirstwood and Peter Pope were the winning team for the men’s competition while Colleen Ringham and Alison Wilton were the winners for the women’s competition. A great sunny day of fun was followed by a delicious meal of beef that had been roasting on a spit all afternoon with buns and potluck salads that participants brought with them. $65.00 was raised to go to the Children’s day for next year. Wollaston Lake Sunset

Here are some pictures from Angela Finnegan and her husband. They  just purchased a cottage on the lake in September 2008 and took some spectacular sunset pictures the last week of September 2008 (the day they closed!).
