From Angie Pickering:
They came by
boat, car and by foot. With the power returning to the Lake
just in time, over 70 players and fans participated in the
Wollaston Lake Horseshoe Tournament. The weather was
perfect again, for the third year. This widely diverse
group, with ages ranging from teenagers, to seniors, with a
whole lot more in between, spent the day watching,
laughing, and catching up on news from new and old friends.
A hip of beef on a split was complimented with salads and
sides fed the crowd after the finals were decided.
Men's
Championship team included Steve Pope and Tom Evans.
Ladies
Championship team included Donna Middleton and Sara
Ashwood.
A big thank you for all that contributed to the dinner.
From WLHCA Executive:
We would
like to thank Angie and Tedd Pickering and their helpers for
another great association social event.
2006 Take a Kid Fishing Derby
On July
8th, Bronwyn Sage, with help from Peggy Stewart and Bev
Meyers from Island View Campgrounds welcomed many
youngsters bringing their fish to be weighed at the
Annual WLHCA Take a Kid Fishing Derby. Bronwyn
has been responsible for convening this day for many
years and her expert organization and efforts are
really appreciated. For many youngsters, this is their
first chance to taste the excitement of reeling in their
first catch. For others, its the lure of catching the
"Big One".
Bronwyn added the following about the
day:
"The Derby was
successful because of the parents and grandparents who
made time to take their children and grandchildren
fishing,, a great investment for future fishing
excursions when these same kids will be taking them
fishing."

2006 Children's Fun Day
(Looking for Pictures!)
WLHCA would like to thank Victoria Pusiak for
organizing and running Children's Fun Day.
Over thirty children enjoyed a very active
and laughter filled day on July 22nd at the beach at
Island View. Upon arrival participants registered
with Peggy Stewart and then were split into
age-grouped teams.
Volunteers Becky Benaissa, Liz Lee, Jennifer
Campbell and Sue Bland helped with leading the teams
through very entertaining tasks as they competed to
see who could fill up leaky pop bottles and pour the
contents into a pail most quickly, throw water
filled balloons at opposing teams, dress in a baggy
set of clothes then swim/walk to the floating dock,
take off the clothes and leave them for the next
person in the team, a three legged race, fish pond,
face painting and to top it all off a jelly and
whipped cream eating contest. The morning was
topped off with a BBQ lunch of hot dogs and drinks
prepared by Steve Pusiak, and Mike Bland , assisted
by Ben Benaissa.
Each
child went home happy with a prize of their choosing
tucked under their arm and a smile on their face.
A
big thank you again to Bev and Bill Meyers who were
wonderful providing the beach, the BBQ, a place to
fill water balloons, and many items that were needed
at the last minute.
